Ranjan Recommends a Malayalam film for the week.

Post-performance of a well-appreciated play, the sole actress of the group (played impressively by Zarin Shihab) is groped in her sleep at a guest house where the group spends the night. She is sure of the culprit, but as the layers are peeled away, doubts arise about her claim regarding the identity of the accused. What emerges is a tale of shifting loyalties, petty jealousies and ego hassles among the members of the group drawn from a diverse section of society.

Writer-director Anand Ekarshi’s extraordinary AATTAM (The Play, Malayalam, 2023) is a superb study of human behaviour masquerading as a mystery, presented through virtuoso blocking of a talented ensemble cast and a skillful screenplay. Look it up on Prime Video.
