It is Thai food in a film that Ranjan Recommends for the week!

A young girl who cooks for a roadside food joint run by her family is inducted into the employment of a famous chef in Bangkok known for his golden touch and foul temper. As she trains under his strict tutelage and learns the art of fine-dining, a clash of personalities ensues and she is employed by a rival and rises up the social ladder.

It’s rare that we come across a film from Thailand. HUNGER (2023) by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri is an intense drama set against the backdrop of the food industry that also explores class conflict and ruthless ambition, ably supported by the performances of its lead actors. Not to be missed.

Streaming on Netflix.
